Our "Not So Squeezy" performer is now even better!
The FE Canter has received a number of significant and very noticeable improvements over the ADR80/00 model despite the core truck remaining largely unchanged. These include:
- New styling changes include a minor revision to the shape of the grill and the 3-diamonds device is now silver instead of red.
- New lower emission ADR80/02 engine.
- Engine power and torque has been improved for all models.
- Canter 2.0, 3.5, 4.0 have a new 4.9L 110kW/470Nm engine (previous 3.9L 103kW/365Nm engine) which enjoys a 6.8% increase in power and a huge boost in torque (28.7%.)
- Canter 4.5 will receive a new engine with an even bigger increase (4.9L 130kW / 530Nm) – improving both power and torque by over 26% and 45% respectively!
- All models are now fitted with front and rear dual calliper disc brakes – replacing the drum brake system used.
- From May 2009 - Dual Front Airbags and Hill Start Assist!
Of course we've still included all these features from the ADR80/00 models:
- Air conditioning, remote central locking, CD player with AM/FM radio, power windows.
- Dash mounted gear stick – easy to use and gives great cross cabin access. Very handy in busy traffic.
- Arguably the roomy and most comfortable cabin available in a light-duty truck.
- Optional drivers side airbag (pre May 2009 build).
All Canter 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 models can be rerated to 4,495 GVM so they can be driven on a car licence. Further, Canter 2.0 can be rerated to 5,600 GVM for customers who need to carry a larger payload, but do not require a Canter 3.5.
NEW FE Canter Auto
Fuso are pleased to announce the release of automatic variants for the Canter light truck. Selected FE84D and FE85D models will be available from June production in Japan with an Aisin MY600 6 speed fully automatic transmission in combination with the 130kW version of the Fuso 4M50 engine.
Fuso Australia believe that this driveline combination will provide all customers, regardless of their level of driving experience, with effortless driving while maintaining the core Canter strengths of reliability and low life cycle costs.

2008 FG Canter (4x4)
The ADR80/02 FG Canter has taken from the ADR80/00 model its reliability, durability and strong chassis design and matched it with a new cab design to offer occupants improved levels of safety, comfort and drivability.
The Canter FG 4X4 will be a prime consideration for applications where its superb four-wheel drive attributes are required such as rural fire service, rescue, mining and emergency work.
Like all Canters, the 4X4 versions which come in either single cab or versatile crew cab models, are spacious and well appointed with features such as air conditioning and AM/FM/CD. Because of its widespread use in rural fire service and emergency applications the Canter FG 4X4 is not equipped with power windows or central locking.
There are three models in the Canter FG 4X4 range. The short wheelbase single cab, the medium wheelbase single cab and a medium wheelbase crew cab. They all utilise the FE Canter wide cab design thereby providing vast levels of safety and space for the occupants.
The Canter FG 4X4 is powered by the much improved 4M50-3AT7 four cylinder 4.9 litre diesel engine which is both turbocharged and common rail injected. To meet strict ADR 80/02 emissions exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and a catalytic converter is employed. That engine is rated at 110kW at 2700rpm and an impressive 471 Nm of torque at 1600rpm. That’s a 7% and 29% improvement respectively over the ADR80/00 model.
Off road or in the rough is where the Canter FG truly excels as it easily claws and picks its way though the inclines and declines. The FG’s engine braking is exceptional on steep trails in low gears. Simply slip it into 1st and 4x4 low and the Canter will make a controlled decent at a slow, smooth walking pace without a need to ride the brake.
Approximately 200kg lighter than competition models and with considerably more torque, the new Fuso Canter FG 8 series 4x4 range is exceptionally suited for anyone seeking a light-duty off-road truck.
